Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson from 37 Signals, built their software company by breaking the rules. And they think it’s about time that you did as well. This is a book about changing the way you think about business. And when a book comes along that is able to take everything you thought you knew about how to run a business and flips it on it’s head, it’s a true gift. Below you’ll find a video summary of the book and 5 chances to win your own copy.

Read It With Us: Cory Miller

We’ve got a new feature here at Read It For Me, and we are calling it “Read It With Us”. In some of our daily posts we’ll be including an interview with somebody else who has read the book and will be asking them for their insights. Cory Miller, the founder of ithemes.com, joins us today. Here’s the interview!

    It is hard to pick which of the 8 Rework rules resonated with me the most, although "act like a drug dealer and give free samples" sure makes a strong impact. "Make tiny decisions instead of big ones" make a great deal of sense to me. The old adage "paralysis by analysis" seems to be what keeps businesses chained down and unable to quickly and freely innovate.
  • Janet - those are a great couple to pick. There are plenty other in the book that you'll love if you liked those 2. It's also very hard to make big decisions, isn't it?

    I use basecamp! (37signals flagship product) and it's amazing that with a simple but powerfull tool this guys have created a multimillon dollar company!, with an open mind that I celebrate. Well done!
  • We use them as well - they have a great business model.
  • Dan S.
    We started hearing no, don't do that, stop that, don't touch that by the time we were 8-months old. Then if we were lucky enough, we spent the next 18-22 years being educated and molded by a system that was developed and handed down from generations past to deliver devoted disciples ready and willing to fit in and be average. This has led to a standardization in business practices as we know it today. In this new world economy, it is going to take new and innovative thinking to lead your business out of and ahead of the pack. I am looking forward to getting a copy of Rework soon.
  • So true! Breaking out is hard to do though, isn't it? Hopefully we can get you a copy of the book soon :)
  • Sometimes I feel like Jason says stuff just to say it, but I actively use some of the rules in the video and it works. I think this book, along with Vaynerchuk's Crush It, will lead to business growth. They are smart guys and have decided to share as they go along. At such a relatively young age, they give so many other entrepreneurs a chance to be successful. Go to Buffet for the long view and 37 Signals for the now view.

    @RajLovesoul
  • Good point - there's room for both the long view and the "now" view. Thanks!
